The complex has 14 self-contained houses (one fully adapted for wheelchair users) which combine traditional architecture with modern comforts such as a cooker, refrigerator, television, washing machine, microwave oven and central heating (or a log fire if guests prefer it ! ). Each house sleeps up to six with a fully-equipped kitchen and a beautifully appointed bathroom. We are proud to draw attention to our recent categorisation of 3 Keys by the National Tourist Board. Our flagship accommodation is the luxurious suite which even has its own jacuzzi – ideal for honeymooners or for that special break.
El Cercado, located in open countryside and commanding magnificent views towards the south, has an adults and a children’s swimming pool, ample car parking, a bar-restaurant (rated at 3 Forks) which offers a wide range of local dishes and spacious function rooms. Nearby is the picturesque village of Bérchules, so typical of the region with its white houses clinging to the mountain sides, where the unique New Year in August is celebrated each year. Traditional methods of cultivation in the area involve the use of horse drawn ploughs and irrigation by the centuries-old acequias. Further afield are the ski slopes of Puerto la Ragua (2000 m) but most visitors will be more than happy to explore the wonderful countryside on the doorstep either on foot, on bicycles or on horseback. There are many well-marked footpaths in the area including access to the famous GR 7 and wildlife of all kinds abounds in this unspoilt National Park area of the Sierra Nevada. Designed, built and run by the Rodríguez family El Cercado offers a warm welcome to all its guests, many of whom come back time after time to this little piece of paradise.
